Mental Health Awareness Week – Slam Poetry

The Mental Health Awareness week by the Psychology Department of LSR, started off on an exciting note today, that is, 17th October, 2016. The first event held during lunch was that of a Slam Poetry where participants from different colleges joined in and performed their pieces. It ranged from how anxiety started showing up in physical form, to daddy issues, to what loving a person with a mental disorder was like and why one should not feel that they have done something great for simply loving.

The participants put up powerful performances, with instances that many people could relate to. There were points where chills ran down the spine, and then there were moments when the audience felt as if their circumstances were being recited in words of the performers. It is difficult to say if the event was joyful. No, it wasn’t. And neither was it supposed to be. Rather, it was an eye-opener; nerve wrecking and very real.
